I’ve been replaced.
By someone who (apparently) glows.
far brighter than I do.
My broken sneakers belie
my truth
unshielded and guarded
fraying from use.
& there is no one to blame
there is no one at fault
but there is disappointment
laced in my veins.
I hope she enjoys her time
& makes something great
as she forces me to consider
leaving this place.
its easier to villainize
when I haven’t seen her face
nor spoken her name
but she’s hard to love right now
amidst the lies.
it came upon me like a lightning strike
sudden and swift
when she walked in, shared the good news
and left me adrift.
disappoint others, I’ve said,
before disappointing self,
but what happens when you’re the one forgotten
on their own dusty shelf.
