Gratitude Journal 7.24 I
7/1: a graduation party with all of my extended family and one very reliable, very Swiftian red lip. Also grateful for Riley, the sweet, loyal, young but old child, who unwittingly followed me into a family photo. Please follow me everywhere, Riley. I won’t lead you astray.
7/2: a Ben and Jerry’s dinner, where I met the courageous Emily, a 5-year-old who approached me to ask if she might join me on my swing. Needless to say, I said yes.
7/3: Despite the fact that I begged my parents for a sister for a long time, I’m glad I ended up with brothers. They make me laugh and I still get to steal clothes from their closets.
7/4: a local park and an individual carousel ride that left my inner child fulfilled. I made friends with two ducks who enjoyed the shade of a picnic table.
7/5: a new notebook and new ink, gliding across the page as if magic.
7/6: today I’m grateful for me! yes, me! specifically a version of me who can care for the versions of me hidden in shadow.
7/7: my two friends, Laurie & Ellie, who joined me in an evening jaunt in the pool and through several invited layers of consciousness.
7/8: little sketches in my notebook, though this watch is stuck in time.
7/9: an epiphanic phone call with Aya, a friend who can see right into my soul.
7/10: oxyclean and whoever the genius was that invented it. I’m a horrific perpetrator of stains and I carry stain remover with me at all times.
7/11: Tracy, from Paper Dolls of Saratoga, who helped me pick out an anniversary card as well as championed my writing! Unprompted, she told me she loves to read books about bookstores…and suddenly, my wheels began to turn.
7/12: the anticipation of a weekend getaway. It pixellates the world, the clock counting down the hours, minutes, seconds…
7/13: Scrabble over a beer.
7/14: celebrating two years of mutual love, care, and support with a stranger I met online.
Until next time,
Kiera
