2.1 - The way the light changes from morning to afternoon; how these changes represent both the saga of the day and the inevitability of change. Today is special in that it is today, no other day, and the light floods the floors like this, for today, and never in the same way again.
2.2 - Watching dogs chase humans, and, more—watching humans chase dogs.
2.3 - Seeing a young girl receive the news that she got into Stanford while surrounded by her friends, all shopping at Diane’s Books. They hugged in a tornado of excitement before one friend payed for her books as a celebratory gift!
2.4 - My fairy godmother who waves her magical wand in the nick of time.
2.5 - Mysteries solved after months of speculation, especially when the solved mystery prompts a fit of uncontrollable laughter.
2.6 - You know speed limits on the road? I’ve instituted my own. Slowing things down—even when it feels counter-intuitive—allows me the opportunity to breathe, sigh, and restart.
2.7 - Witnessing an old man walking with a cane rushing out of his way to help an old lady struggling to put her winter coat on. It was chivalrous and struck me right in the heart.
2.8 - An evening free of anxiety, flooded with dopamine and serotonin by noxious forces.
2.9 - The crunch and sweetness of biting into an apple for the first time in many years. It almost feels forbidden…
2.10 - Honesty. Even in the hardest times, articulating the truth of my internal experience bears fruit.
2.11 - Older cousin, older sister. Grateful you’re in my life.
2.12 - A new outfit from old scraps of clothing that I’ve never paired. The realization that it works is as subtle as my collar folded down.
2.13 - An impromptu dinner and wine night—made and enjoyed by myself! I like my own company, some of the time…
2.14 - The softness and warmness of a heart directed towards someone else.
2.15 - Appreciating mother nature in the winter, even when it’s convenient not too. I probably owe a lot of my new appreciation to Robin Wall Kimmerer’s Braiding Sweetgrass, indigenous wisdom that has helped me think differently about what’s around me.
2.16 - The sharpness of mind, the clarity of resources, the trudging effort of a day’s work.
2.17 - Taking myself on a takeout and movie date!
2.18 - The strength and fortitude to carry one suitcase, one tote bag, and one steaming hot chai tea latte through the subway system of New York City. Not a drop wasted!
2.19 - When the seconds feel like hours and the minutes feel like days—characteristic of all excited anticipation.
2.20 - Another month, another too-sweet reunion.
2.21 - The assembly of the masses for some college hoops.
2.22 - Taking a trip to Mars (aka Sedona), for some beautiful views and warmer weather.
Until next time,
Kiera
